June 5th 2014  Lesson 33

There is another way of looking at the world.

Today's idea is an attempt to recognize that you can shift your perception of the world in both its outer and inner aspects.
  • Intention:  Two longer periods of practice with today's idea are needed, one in the morning and one at night.  A full five minutes should be devoted to each.

In addition, repeat the idea for today as often as possible during the day as you survey either your inner or outer world.  It does not matter which you choose.

  • Practice:  During the two longer practice periods, repeat today's idea as often as you find comfortable, though unhurried applications are essential.  Merely glance casually around the world you perceive as outside yourself, then close your eyes and survey your inner thoughts with equal casualness.

Alternate between surveying your outer and inner perceptions, but without an abrupt sense of shifting, and try to remain equally uninvolved in both your outer and inner perceptions.  Maintain this detachment as you repeat the idea throughout the day.

  • Application:  The shorter exercise periods should be as frequent as possible.  Specific applications of today's idea should also be made immediately, when any situation arises which tempts you to become disturbed or stressed.  For these applications, say:

There is another way of looking at this.

It may be necessary to take a minute or so to sit quietly and repeat the idea to yourself several times.  Closing your eyes will probably help in this form of application.

Insights/comments:
  • Today's idea is the beginning of our intention to deliberately change our inner and outer perceptions.  Having acknowledged that they are our own inventions and we therefore have no need to fear or be victimized by them, we are now deciding that we want to see them differently.  The first step is to recognize that there is another way of looking at our perceptions, and then to remind ourselves of this through our practice with today's idea.  This practice will help us remember that we always have the power to change any situation simply by deciding to look at it differently.
I and my Creator are One.  *:)
