March 24th 2014  Epilogue

Epilogue and Final Comments.

So here we are at the end of our study of A Course in Miracles Workbook, where a summary and final comments seems appropriate.  How have we benefited from this experience and what are the main points we should take with us as we continue our spiritual awakening.

The immediate benefits we have gained are a clearer, more mature understanding about who God is, who we are, and the quality of our relationship with God.  This leads therefore to a better understanding of our purpose in this human life experience--salvation through forgiveness.  It also reminds us that we are not alone for we have the invincible help of the Holy Spirit within us, and as we learn to follow His guidance we walk more surely and quickly along the path of awakening to our true identity as the holy children of God.

Forgiveness is the awareness that all that seemed to have happened is really only an illusion.  An elaborate, convincing, and persistent illusion, but an illusion nonetheless.  It is only by understanding the events of the world in this context that we can truly forgive, for by this awareness, we realize that there is nothing to forgive.  The world appears as it does because of what we believe about God and ourselves, and it will change as we change our beliefs.  God created everything, including us, perfect, and what He created remains as He created it, perfect, Spirit, and free.  Forgiveness is necessary because we believe that error and "sin" are possible, and it becomes obsolete when we remember God's perfection and our own.  From this perspective there is no insufficiency, no imperfection, and no need for defense or attack, for all is well and wisely set.  Unity, harmony, joy, peace and love are the truths that become increasingly apparent as we use forgiveness to remember our true identity.

Even though our true nature as gods is like an unquenchable pilot light within us, it is presently overshadowed by our belief that we are bodies.  Yet our study has fanned the flames of this truth and we can never fully return to the previous ignorance of our true identity.  We are now more sure that salvation is possible, and we are not alone in this endeavor because we have the ever-present guidance of the invincible Holy Spirit, on Whom we can depend to guide our steps.  Our maturity of understanding means that we can now transcend all teachings about God because we acknowledge and increasingly recognize Him in everything in creation, without exception.  Our goal of salvation then is through the forgiveness of the world and ourselves, which naturally increases peace, joy, and harmony with everyone and everything.  This is how we will remember ourselves.

Let us therefore keep the lamp of truth lit in our hearts by regular communion with the Holy Spirit every day, and for a moment or two every hour that we can, thus ensuring a quick awakening to our true identity.  Let our awareness of Him be in our minds after arising, before retiring at night, and throughout the day.  He is our guide so the more we let Him lead us, the quicker and more gentle will be our awakening.

  • Intention:  To remember above all else that we are the holy children of God and that He is one with us all.  He knows our true identity and offers us constant guidance through the Holy Spirit, the Voice for God, and salvation through our forgiveness.

  • Practice:  Twice daily, let us be as free of words as possible, using them at the beginning of our practice only to remind us that we seek to go beyond them.  Morning and evening let us turn to Him in silence and listen to His Voice within us.  And again for a few moments each hour in silence, remembering the peace of His presence within us.

  •  Application:  God is our salvation, let us dedicate our minds and hearts to Him and Him alone, and by this one-pointed dedication find in Him all our brothers and the whole creation in the peaceful harmony of unity.

    Lesson 361-365

This holy instant would I give to You.
Be You in charge.  For I would follow You,
Certain that Your direction gives me peace.

  • Invitation Prayer:   And if I need a word to help me, He will give it to me.  If I need a thought, that will He also give.  And if I need but stillness and a tranquil, open mind, these are the gifts I will receive of Him.  He is in charge by my request.  And He will hear and answer me, because He speaks for God my Father and His holy Son.

Insights/comments:
  • Remember the peace of God is in everyone and everything, so forgive everyone and everything so that we may forgive ourselves and remember our true identity as the holy children of God.

March 14th 2014  Lesson 360

Part II  Introduction

  • We will continue spending time with God each morning and night and at each waking hour, using all future lessons as introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace, calling to God when we have need of Him as we are tempted to forget our goal.  During these holy times, we will say some simple words of welcome, and expect our Father to reveal Himself to us, as He has promised that He would when we invited Him.

This is how our times with Him will now be spent:  we say the words of invitation that His Voice suggests, and then we wait for Him to come to us.  Sit silently and wait upon your Father.  He has willed to come to you when you have recognized it is your will He do so.  We need only call to God, and all temptations disappear.  Instead of words, we need but feel His Love.  Instead of prayers, we need but call His Name.  Instead of judging, we need but be still and let all things be healed.

Our lessons will now be preceded by a theme of special relevance that we should review before each lesson until another is given us.  They should be slowly read and thought about a little while, preceding one of the holy times we sit in silence and wait for God to reveal Himself to us.  The next of these special thoughts follow and are relevant to lessons 351 - 360:

      14. What Am I?

I am God's Son, complete and healed and whole, shining in the reflection of His Love.  In me is His creation sanctified and guaranteed eternal life.  In me is love perfected, fear impossible, and joy established without opposite. I am the holy home of God Himself.  I am the Heaven where His Love resides.  I am His holy Sinlessness Itself, for in my purity abides His Own.

Our use for words is almost over now.  Yet in the final days of this one year we gave to God together, you and I, we found a single purpose that we shared.  And thus you joined with me, so what I am are you as well.  The truth of what we are is not for words to speak of nor describe.  Yet we can realize our function here, and words can speak of this and teach it, too, if we exemplify the words in us.

We are the bringers of salvation.  We accept our part as saviors of the world, which through our joint forgiveness is redeemed. And this, our gift, is therefore given us.  We look on everyone as brother, and perceive all things as kindly and as good.  We do not seek a function that is past the gate of Heaven. Knowledge will return when we have done our part.  We are concerned only with giving welcome to the truth.

Ours are the eyes through which Christ's vision sees a world redeemed from every thought of sin.  Ours are the ears that hear the Voice for God proclaim the world as sinless.  Ours the minds that join together as we bless the world.  And from the oneness that we have attained we call to all our brothers, asking them to share our peace and consummate our joy.

We are the holy messengers of God who speak for Him, and carrying His Word to everyone whom He has sent to us, we learn that it is written on our hearts.  And thus our minds are changed about the aim for which we came, and which we seek to serve.  We bring glad tidings to the Son of God, who thought he suffered.  Now is he redeemed.  And as he sees the gate of Heaven stand open before him, he will enter in and disappear into the Heart of God.

    Lesson 360

Peace be to me, the holy Son of God.
Peace to my brother, who is one with me.
Let all the world be blessed with peace through us.

  • Invitation Prayer:   Father, it is Your peace that I would give, receiving it of You.  I am Your Son, forever just as You created me, for the Great Rays remain forever still and undisturbed within me.  I would reach to them in silence and in certainty, for nowhere else can certainty be found.  Peace be to me and peace to all the world.  In holiness were we created, and in holiness do we remain.  Your Son is like to You in perfect sinlessness.  And with this thought we gladly say "Amen."

Insights/comments:
  • So as we approach the end of our lessons it is good to again remember three things:  First, the purpose for our study—to remember our true identity and unity with God and our brothers.  Second, our goal—the salvation of the world.  And third, the means for accomplishing our goal—forgiveness.  God makes not mistakes and He would not bless us with this task if we were not fully capable of fulfilling it.  He has given us all we need to succeed and succeed we will for it is His will that we realize who He is and who we really are.  Peace is the basis of happiness, so it is peace that we first recognize and acknowledge as a sign of our increasing success.  We take the first step, remembering our unity with God and with our brothers, to offer forgiveness to the world of illusions we perceive, and let the peace of God fill our awareness with the vision of Christ.

March 13th 2014  Lesson 359

    Lesson 359

God's answer is some form of peace.  All pain
Is healed; all misery replaced with joy.
All prison doors are opened.  And all sin
Is understood as merely a mistake.

  • Invitation Prayer:   Father, today we will forgive Your world, and let creation be Your Own.  We have misunderstood all things.  But we have not made sinners of the holy Sons of God.  What You created sinless so abides forever and forever.  Such are we.  And we rejoice to learn that we have made mistakes which have no real effects on us.  Sin is impossible, and on this fact forgiveness rests upon a certain base more solid than the shadow world we see.  Help us forgive, for we would be redeemed.  Help us forgive, for we would be at peace.

Insights/comments:
  • We learned in recent lessons that every call is ultimately a call to God, and every call to God is answered.  And His answer is the one that is best for us and the one we really want, consciously or unconsciously, because “God’s answer is some form of peace.”  Peace is what we want first and foremost, for it is the prerequisite for the release of pain, misery, limitation and ‘sin’, and it is the foundation for eternal joy and happiness and the remembrance of our true identity—Divine perfection.  It is certain that we have been mistaken about all things, for if we see as imperfect what God created, then indeed we must be mistaken.  But a mistake is not a sin, which is a deception that says there is something imperfect with God and/or His creation.  It is insanity to believe that God, Who created us and is our eternal source, does not know what we are, and are not capable of, and what our true potential is.  We cannot be more than what He created us to be, nor can we be less, for there is nothing greater than perfection, and that is only what He can create.  But we can, and certainly have, denied our perfection and made ourselves believe that we are less than what God created.  But this is simply make-believe, for our perfection remains unmarred, even by our denial.  ‘Sin’ therefore is only an illusion that if believed can blind us to the peace of God and our salvation.  If we believe ourselves to be ten percent of what God created us to be, then our speech and actions will demonstrate our belief.  This is not a ‘sin’, but simply a mistake, and as soon as we realize or are shown clearly that we have been mistaken, our speech and actions will automatically change accordingly.  ‘Sin’ then is impossible for God does not make mistakes, and knows His creation perfectly.  But until we realize this, we need the illusion of forgiveness to guide us back to the understanding that we are and remain as God created us, perfect, Spirit, free!

    Lesson 358

No call to God can be unheard nor left
    Unanswered.  And of this I can be sure;
His answer is the one I really want.

  • Invitation Prayer:   You Who remember what I really am alone remember what I really want.  You speak for God, and so You speak fro me.  And what You give me comes from God Himself.  Your Voice, my Father, then is mine as well, and all I want is what You offer me, in just the form You choose that it be mine.  Let me remember all I do not know, and let my voice be still, remembering.  But let me not forget Your Love and care, keeping Your promise to Your Son in my awareness always.  Let me not forget myself is nothing, but my Self is all.

Insights/comments:
  • We are the holy children of God.  We are as God created us and as we remain:  perfect, Spirit, free.  This is true for everyone and everything in creation, which together form the unified sonship or the Holy Son of God.  The holy Son of God, the integrated unity of all that is, is one-third of the unified holy Trinity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit, the Voice for God, is that pat of the Holy Trinity that facilitates the communication and integration between the the Father and all aspects of the sonship.  The Holy Spirit knows our dreams and illusions but is not affected by them as we are, He is the Voice guiding us to salvation through the practice of forgiveness.  This is how we, as individuals, are united with each other and with our Creator.  This is how God knows our hearts and minds and why all calls to Him are heard and answered even before they are asked.  His answer is Forgiveness through our increasing understanding that we are unified with all of creation and with our Creator.  As echoed in the ancient scriptures of the Vedas: Aham Brahmasmi (I am Brahman, the Divine;)  tat tvam asi (you are that Divine); and Sarvam khalvidam Brahma (all of this creation is Brahman, the Divine).

    Lesson 357

Truth answers every call we make to God,
Responding first with miracles, and then
Returning unto us to be itself.

  • Invitation Prayer:   Forgiveness, truth's reflection, tells me how to offer miracles, and thus escape the prison house in which I think I live.  Your holy Son is pointed out to me, first in my brother; then in me.  Your Voice instructs me patiently to hear Your Word, and give as I receive.  And as I look upon Your Son today, I hear Your Voice instructing me to find the way to You, as You appointed that the way shall be:

"Behold his sinlessness, and be you healed."

Insights/comments:
  • If it is true that “Truth answers every call we make to God,” and we know in truth that every call we make is really a call to God, then it must be true that every call we make is a call for the Truth.  But therein lies the rub, for we aren’t always ready to handle the Truth with respect to our call, so when it comes it can often be an upsetting experience.  Knowing that Truth answers every call, we can now respond appropriately when our calls are answered, realizing that the given answer is the one we need because it will lead us to forgiveness.  This means that Forgiveness is the path to our awakening because forgiveness reminds us of the truth that we are all one with each other and with our Creator.  Oneness means that what is salvation for my brother is my salvation as well, as I recognize it first in him, before I recognize it in myself.  It is certainly easier for us to forgive another than it is to forgive ourselves, so this is why we recognize the effects of salvation in our brothers first, which assures us that we too are also saved from the illusions of separation and judgment.  Our brothers sinlessness reminds us of our own, and awakens us to the truth that we are all the holy sinless children of our one Creator..

March 10th 2014  Lesson 356

Part II  Introduction

    Lesson 356

Sickness is but another name for sin.
Healing is but another name for God.
The miracle is thus a call to Him.

  • Invitation Prayer:   Father, You promised You would never fail to answer any call Your Son might make to You.  It does not matter where he is, what seems to be his problem, nor what he believes he has become.  He is Your Son, and You will answer him.  The miracle reflects Your Love, and thus it answers him.  Your name replaces every thought of sin, and who is sinless cannot suffer pain.  Your Name gives answer to Your Son, because to call Your Name is but to call his own.

  • To interact with the world as though it were a mirror or a reflection allows us to remember that the source or cause for every experience we have is in ourselves, not in the world.  And just as the image in a mirror must change when what is in front of it changes, when we change our thoughts, words, definitions, beliefs, and actions, so too our experiences must change automatically.  This is the means through which God has given us the power to control our lives, simply stated:  what we put out is what we get back.  Seek not to change the world, but change only the thoughts and beliefs we have about ourselves, and the world must change accordingly.  This miracle is a call to God, a way to remember who we are, and our remembrance allows us to use it to heal rather than to make ourselves sick.  The more we choose to follow our joy and excitement in every moment, for as long as we can, and without any insistence on a particular outcome, always maintaining a positive attitude in the face of what does occur, the more we make use of our God given power to change our thoughts and beliefs.  This allows the miracles or synchronicities of life, to bring us the experiences we want with the least effort and maximum joy.  This is how we heal ourselves, and heal the world.

March 9th 2014  Lesson 355

    Lesson 355

There is no end to all the peace and joy,
And all the miracles that I will give,
When I accept God's Word.  Why not today.

  • Invitation Prayer:   Why should I wait, my Father, for the joy You promised me?  For You will keep Your Word You gave Your Son in exile.  I am sure my treasure waits for me, and I need but reach out my hand to find it.  Even now my fingers touch it.  It is very close.  I need not wait an instant more to be at peace forever.  It is You I choose, and my Identity along with You.  Your Son would be Himself, and know You as his Father and Creator, and his Love.

Insights/comments:
  • What do we have to do to know the peace and joy of God?  Only to accept the truth that we are His children and are therefore exactly like Him—perfect, Spirit, free, and unlike what our senses and the world have convinced us that we are—imperfect, mortal, “sinful”.  What God created is eternal and perfect.  We cannot change what God created us to be, but we can choose to deny it.  This denial is based on our forgetfulness of God's true nature, and of our oneness with Him.  Having forgotten, we adapted a false identity based on our senses, separate from and foreign to what God created, and having adopted this false identity, we believed in it.  If we would but examine the “logic” we use to justify our false identity, we will immediately realize that it is baseless, for it is impossible to avoid, far less thwart the will of the All-mighty.  God knows our true perfect nature for He created us.  He knows all that is in our minds and hearts, all that we are capable of, and our need for salvation.  So it should not surprise us that God’s plan for out salvation— the atonement, guarantees the remembrance of our true identity, and needs only our acceptance for its fulfillment.  Let us this day, leave aside our false beliefs, and to the best of our ability accept the miracle of His Gift to us, His Word that we are His only begotten son in whom He is well pleased..

March 8th 2014  Lesson 354

    Lesson 354

We stand together, Christ and I, in peace
And certainty of purpose.  And in Him
Is His Creator, as He is in me.

  • Invitation Prayer:   My oneness with the Christ establishes me as Your Son, beyond the reach of time, and wholly free of every law but Yours.  I have no self except the Christ in me.  I have no purpose but His Own.  And He is like His Father.  Thus must I be one with You as well as Him.  For who is Christ except Your Son as You created Him?  And what am I except the Christ in me?

Insights/comments:
  • God created us perfect as Himself and united with His one Self.   Perfection* is a constant state that does not change and this is a fundamental and immutable characteristic of God's one creation.  God is perfect, I am perfect, you are perfect, and all of this, apparently separate creation. is perfect.  This is what unites us with each other and with our Creator.  We have forgotten our perfection but we have not lost it, for it is an inherent and permanent part of ourselves.  The Christ in us remembers our true identity as perfect children of God, and by aligning our self-created ego-self with our Christ-Self, we can remember, know, and experience our true identity as perfection.  We do not have to become perfect, for it already is our natural and permanent state, it is already what we are; we need do nothing to become what we already are.  We do, however, need to become aware of our God-given perfection, and thus the need to align with the Christ in us.

*Perfection is the state of being complete in every way.  This implies that perfection is a constant state, because any further addition or subtraction will contradict the perfection of the state already attained.  We can also think of perfection as a state of constant equilibrium or balance, meaning that change is allowed, but only if equilibrium is maintained

March 7th 2014  Lesson 353

    Lesson 353

My eyes, my tongue, my hands, my feet today
Have but one purpose; to be given Christ
To use to bless the world with miracles.

  • Invitation Prayer:   Father, I give all that is mine today to Christ, to use in any way that best will serve the purpose that I share with Him.  Nothing is mine alone, for He and I have joined in purpose.  Thus has learning come almost to its appointed end.  A while I work with Him to serve His purpose.  Then I lose myself in my Identity, and recognize that Christ is but my Self.

Insights/comments:
  • I am a child of God, endowed with all His gifts and all that He is, is in me for we are one.  This is the identity I have forgotten and in my dreams think myself separate from my Creator, but let me this day remember the truth by offering all that I think I have and all that I think I am to Christ, in the service of blessing the world with miracles.  Christ is that part of me that knows my true identity, so by aligning with His purpose, my God given gifts are used positively and effectively for the benefit of all.  This is how I can let go of my ego-self and gain the perspective and status of my Higher Self and regain the memory of my true identity as one with Christ.
