May 18th 2014  Lesson 19

I am not alone in experiencing
the effects of my thoughts.

Today's idea is the basis for yesterday's.  The reason why your seeing does not affect you alone is because your thinking does not affect you alone, which means therefore that thinking and its results, perception, are really simultaneous, for cause and effect are never separate.  This is why the ideas related to thinking sometimes precede those related to perceiving, while at other times the order is reversed.

This again emphasizes the fact that minds are joined; that there are no private thoughts.  Despite our initial resistance to this idea, we will yet understand that it must be true if salvation is possible at all, which it must be because it is God's Will.

  • Intention:  Three or four practice periods are recommended, according to your comfort level, with each lasting a minute or so.

  • Practice:  With eyes closed, repeat today's idea, then search the mind carefully for the thoughts it contains at the time.  As you consider each one, name it in terms of the central person or theme it contains, and holding it in your mind as you do so, say:

I am not alone in experiencing the effects of this thought about _________.

  • Application:   As usual, make no distinctions in choosing the subject for application of today's idea.  Anything you look upon will do.

Insights/comments:
  • The idea behind today's and yesterday's thought points to is the unity of all God's children.  We share all thoughts, and so are constantly influencing each other by our perceptions.  And it is because we share all thoughts that we can return to our "real" thoughts, the thoughts we share with God.  This return of our "right" thinking will wash away the make-believe meaning we gave to the world and reveal the "real" meaning God has given it.
