September 30th 2014   Lesson 196

It can be but myself I crucify.

  • Intention:  To remember that it is impossible that we be hurt except by our own thoughts, for God created us one with Himself and with all of creation, so it can be but myself I crucify or benefit.
  • Practice:  Twice today, let us go to that quiet place within our hearts and minds where the Light and Love and Joy of God abides.  In that place of safety, let us remember with gratitude the oneness we share with Him who is our Creator and with all of creation.  And when we return to the world of form, let us with gratitude, give a little time each hour to practice forgiveness in the form of today's lesson, applying it to whatever is happening in that hour and releasing all concerns when the hour passes, so that the next hour is free of the one before.

  •  Application:  When we are aware that there is only one of us we will not attempt to harm ourselves, nor make our bodies slave to vengeance.  We will not attack for we will realize that to attack another is but to attack ourselves.  We will be free of the insane belief that to attack a brother saves ourselves.  And we will understand his safety is our own, and in his healing are we healed.  Limitless mercy and sure protection can be found in the idea we practice for today, if we deny the ego's justifications for attack as a means of salvation.

The dreary, hopeless thought that we can make attacks on others and escape ourselves has crucified us.  Our perception of our selves as separate in a world full of danger seems to justify attack as a means of survival but this justification is only temporary for death awaits us all, and merely represents our belief that the fear of God is real.  And what is that but hell.  Who could believe his Father is his deadly enemy, separate from him, and waiting to destroy his life and blot him from the universe, without the fear of hell upon his heart.  Today's idea is one step we take in leading us from bondage to the state of perfect freedom.  Let us take this step today, that we may quickly go the way salvation shows us, taking every step in its appointed sequence, as the mind relinquishes its burdens one by one.  It is not time we need for this.  It is but willingness.  For what would seem to need a thousand years can easily be done in just one instant by the grace of God.

The fear of God is real to anyone who thinks that he can attack another and be free himself.  To question this thought at all, its form must first be changed at least as much as will permit fear of retaliation to abate, and the responsibility returned to some extent to ourselves.  From there we can at least consider if we want to go along this painful path.  Until we do this, we cannot perceive that it is but our thoughts that bring us fear, and our deliverance depends on us.  Once we understand that it is only our thoughts that can hurt us, the fear of God must disappear and we cannot then believe that fear is caused without.  And God Whom we had thought to banish can be welcomed back within the holy mind He never left.  Every step we take away from fear brings us closer to Love.  When the fear of God is gone, there are no obstacles that still remain between us and the holy peace of God.

Insights/comments:
  • The understanding of our inherent oneness with all things and with God is the basis for our relinquishment of the mad idea of attack.  The deeper we understand this oneness the clearer we will see that to attack another is but to attack ourselves, and the more deeply will we remember our connection to God and to all of creation.

I and my Creator are One.  *:)
