November 8th 2014  Lesson 234

Part II  Introduction

  • We will continue spending time with God each morning and night and at each waking hour, using all future lessons as introductions to the times in which we leave the world of pain, and go to enter peace, calling to God when we have need of Him as we are tempted to forget our goal.  During these holy times, we will say some simple words of welcome, and expect our Father to reveal Himself to us, as He has promised that He would when we invited Him.

This is how our times with Him will now be spent:  we say the words of invitation that His Voice suggests, and then we wait for Him to come to us.  Sit silently and wait upon your Father.  He has willed to come to you when you have recognized it is your will He do so.  We need only call to God, and all temptations disappear.  Instead of words, we need but feel His Love.  Instead of prayers, we need but call His Name.  Instead of judging, we need but be still and let all things be healed.

Our lessons will now be preceded by a theme of special relevance that we should review before each lesson until another is given us.  They should be slowly read and thought about a little while, preceding one of the holy times we sit in silence and wait for God to reveal Himself to us.  The first of these special thoughts follow and are relevant to lessons 231 - 240:

      2. What is Salvation

Salvation is a promise, made by God, that you would find your way to Him at last. It cannot but be kept. It guarantees that time will have an end, and all the thoughts that have been born in time will end as well. God's Word is given every mind which thinks that it has separate thoughts, and will replace these thoughts of conflict with the Thought of peace.

The Thought of peace was given to God's Son the instant that his mind had thought of war. There was no need for such a Thought before, for peace was given without opposite, and merely was. But when the mind is split there is a need of healing. So the Thought that has the power to heal the split became a part of every fragment of the mind that still was one, but failed to recognize its oneness. Now it did not know itself, and thought its own Identity was lost.

Salvation is undoing in the sense that it does nothing, failing to support the world of dreams and malice. Thus it lets illusions go. By not supporting them, it merely lets them quietly go down to dust. And what they hid is now revealed; an altar to the holy Name of God whereon His Word is written, with the gifts of your forgiveness laid before it, and the memory of God not far behind.

Let us come daily to this holy place, and spend a while together. Here we share our final dream. It is a dream in which there is no sorrow, for it holds a hint of all the glory given us by God. The grass is pushing through the soil, the trees are budding now, and birds have come to live within their branches. Earth is being born again in new perspective. Night has gone, and we have come together in the light.

From here we give salvation to the world, for it is here salvation was received. The song of our rejoicing is the call to all the world that freedom is returned, that time is almost over, and God's Son has but an instant more to wait until his Father is remembered, dreams are done, eternity has shined away the world, and only Heaven now exists at all.

    Lesson 234

Father, today I am Your Son again.

  • Today we will anticipate the time when dreams of sin and guilt are gone, and we have reached the holy peace we never left.  Merely a tiny instant has elapsed between eternity and timelessness.  So brief the interval there was no lapse in continuity, nor break in thoughts which are forever unified as one.  Nothing has ever happened to disturb the peace of God the Father and the Son.  This we accept as wholly true today.
  • Invitation Prayer:  We thank you Father, that we cannot lose the memory of You and of Your Love.  We recognize our safety, and give thanks for all the gifts You have bestowed on us, for all the loving help we have received, for Your eternal patience, and the Word which You have given us that we are saved.

Insights/comments:
  • The time we spend in dreams may appear to be an instant or an eternity in which events seem to occur, but because we are unconscious of "waking-time" we simply accept as real the "dream-time" and the events we seem to be experiencing.  Only when we re-awaken do we realize that nothing really happened except for a slight discrepancy between waking-time and dream-time.  We may have experienced a lifetime in our dream, but only a few minutes or hours of waking-time have elapsed.  This shows that time is malleable and changeable relative to our state of awareness, whether waking, dreaming, or deep sleep.

In sleep we awaken to the truth of our being as Holy children of God in Heaven, and when we “fall asleep” in heaven we dream that we are awake in space and time as individual limited beings, forgetting our true identity for a little while.  But our Father made it so that we can never lose our true identity, for even as we dream in space and time, it is here in us awaiting but our acknowledgement.

  1. I must admit that I'm a bit shaky on the question that Carolyn asked about the second sentence of today's Lesson: "Merely a tiny instant has elapsed between eternity and timelessness" Her question is simply "What is the difference between eternity and timelessness?"

I also asked the same question and have not yet arrived at a good answer, and as a result, the insight I wrote in response to this lesson left me feeling that I had not understood the Lesson completely. I still feel that way, and am looking for some deeper understanding of why the course makes this distinction. Will add further comment here as I progress in my search..... : )

  2. There is no difference between eternity and timelessness, they are but two ways to say the same thing. We are timeless and live in eternity and our waking state experience is but an illusion that seems real for an instant but in truth never happens.
